Summary:
Today, the Riders Alliance, community leaders, and local residents gathered at the intersection of Flatbush Avenue and Empire Boulevard to launch the FastBusAve campaign, demanding improved bus service along this vital corridor. The event saw participation from several notable figures, including Council Members Crystal Hudson and Rita Joseph, and public advocate Jumaane Williams.

The FastBusAve campaign launch was a vibrant and energetic event, bringing together a coalition of community members, activists, and local leaders to demand better bus service along Flatbush Avenue. This eight-mile corridor is crucial for many Brooklyn residents, and the current bus service is slow and unreliable, impacting daily commutes and overall quality of life.

Council Member Crystal Hudson expressed her support, stating, “Let’s make Flatbush Avenue into #FastBusAvenue! Our communities deserve better bus service.” She emphasized the need for the mayor to take meaningful steps to improve the situation.

Rita Joseph, another strong advocate for the cause, highlighted the ongoing struggle for a dedicated bus lane on Flatbush Avenue, which she has championed since day one. “Bus riders are tired of slow, unreliable service on Flatbush Ave. Join us in demanding better!” she urged the crowd.

The event was also attended by Ethan Norville, Transportation Chair for Brooklyn Community District 9, who reiterated the importance of efficient public transit for the community’s well-being and economic growth.

The campaign has garnered support from various organizations, including the Transit Workers Union Local 100 and the New York Public Interest Research Group (NYPIRG). Together, these groups aim to create a powerful constituency that can influence policy changes to enhance public transit in New York City.
