A $7.1 million afterschool contract tied to two Harlem schools, a Department of Education search for asbestos inspectors, a noncompetitive laptop buy at the Staten Island DA’s office and a Queens budget hearing on Nov. 2 lead today’s city filings.
$7.1 million for middle school afterschool
The Department of Youth and Community Development awarded Global Artists Coalition Incorporated $7,090,200 for COMPASS programs in public middle schools.
The notice lists two schools: Eagle Academy for Young Men of Harlem and Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy Charter School.
COMPASS offers free afterschool and summer programs for students in kindergarten through eighth grade. With SONYC, it runs more than 820 programs across the five boroughs, city filings say.
The award came through competitive sealed proposals from a pre-qualified list. DYCD says price alone could not decide the work, so quality and programming were weighed too.
Not stated: the contract term or how many students it serves.
Schools shop for asbestos inspectors
The Department of Education wants a requirements contractor to inspect schools and other buildings under the federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.
The job covers AHERA inspections, management plans and triennial re-inspections under EPA rules for asbestos in schools, plus laboratory services.
A virtual pre-bid conference is Nov. 16 at 10:45 a.m. Bids are due Jan. 28, 2027, with a virtual bid opening Jan. 29 at 11 a.m.
The notice gives no dollar value and does not name specific schools.
Staten Island DA’s $408,842 laptop order
The Richmond County District Attorney’s office plans to pay Quality and Assurance Technology Corp of Ridge, N.Y., up to $408,842 for laptops and peripherals.
It is a noncompetitive M/WBE small purchase, meaning no open bidding. The term runs Nov. 3, 2026, through Jan. 31, 2027.
