New York City doesn’t just happen—it’s captured. My name is Howard Weiss, a Brooklyn-born photographer who first discovered his passion for the lens at John Dewey High School. For years, I have walked the pavement of all five boroughs to document the intersection of breaking news and the human spirit. As an Accredited NYC Press Photographer, I don’t just take pictures; I archive the evolving history of the world’s most iconic city.
Before I ever pressed a shutter for a living, I dedicated the better part of my career to public service—working for the government and the USPS, where I personally delivered mail to every single address in Brooklyn. That experience gave me something no photography school ever could: an intimate, street-level knowledge of this borough’s neighborhoods, its people, and its pulse. Today, I bring that deep-rooted familiarity to every frame.

Mission:
At NYC in Focus, the goal is simple: Truth through the lens. My approach combines the speed of a journalist with the eye of an artist. Whether I’m covering major civic events, DSNY operations, or the quiet, “frozen” moments of a Brooklyn street corner, I provide imagery that resonates with authenticity and authority (EEAT).
Fun Fact:
My first time being “published” was in 1986! As a kid, I wrote a fan letter to Marvel Comics about how much I loved the Care Bears series. They actually printed my letter in Care Bears #7 as part of the Marvel 25th Anniversary Star Comics line. Some things are just meant to be.
