NYC In Focus for iPhone
The app for the moment you ask: “What’s happening right now?”
Sirens outside. A street packed with people. Nothing to do tonight. Something happening in your ZIP. NYC In Focus puts live local information, events, culture, maps and neighborhood conversation in one place.
Why keep another app?
Because the question changes every hour.
NYC In Focus is designed around the questions New Yorkers actually ask when they’re moving through the city.
“What is going on over there?”
See what’s happening now.
Open FREQ and the Live Map for current local information and location context without bouncing between different feeds.
“What can I do tonight?”
Find the city before you miss it.
Explore events, culture and things happening around New York, from big moments to neighborhood-level activity.
“What are people near me saying?”
Your ZIP has a room.
Read supported ZIP conversations and, when you are physically there, sign in with Apple to join that ZIP’s Neighborhood Chat.
One city. One app.
Stop opening five different places to understand one block.
Every feature has one job: get you from “what’s happening?” to useful local context faster.
Current local information
Follow a live stream of public/local information and move from a developing item to its map context.
See where it is
Explore location-aware information on a map instead of trying to translate a list of names and addresses in your head.
Know what the city is doing
Find events, culture and neighborhood activity for now, tonight and the days ahead.
Ask less. Find more.
Search across app information when you know what you want and don’t want to hunt through separate screens.
Local conversation with a location rule
Read supported ZIP rooms. Posting requires Sign in with Apple and a fresh location check confirming you’re in that ZIP.
Make the app come to you

Privacy by design
Useful location features without making every feature a location feature.
- Location permission is used for map positioning, ZIP posting verification and optional Nearby FREQ alerts.
- Nearby FREQ alerts are off by default and require an explicit opt-in.
- Turning Nearby alerts off clears the stored coordinates associated with that device’s push registration on the next successful sync.
- Neighborhood Chat shows a rolling 24-hour conversation history; ordinary chat message rows are automatically purged after approximately 72 hours.
- Chat includes server-side content filtering, reporting and blocking tools.
- Signed-in users can delete their NYC In Focus Neighborhood Chat account from inside the app.
FAQ
The things you’ll want to know before you tap Download.
Do I need an account just to use NYC In Focus?
No. An account is specifically required when you want to post in Neighborhood Chat. Sign in uses Apple.
Why does the app ask for my location?
Location can center the map, verify the ZIP you are physically in when you choose to post in Neighborhood Chat, and power Nearby FREQ alerts if you turn that optional feature on.
Can I read a ZIP room if I am not there?
Supported ZIP rooms can be read as designed, but posting is limited to the ZIP the app verifies you are currently inside.
How long does Neighborhood Chat stay around?
The visible conversation is a rolling 24 hours. Ordinary chat message rows are retained for no more than approximately 72 hours and are then automatically purged, subject to limited moderation/safety records described in the Privacy Policy.
Is FREQ an emergency service?
No. NYC In Focus is an information product, not an emergency dispatch or public-safety service. For emergencies call 911 and rely on official authorities for instructions.
Is the app already in the App Store?
The public App Store listing is being prepared. Once it is live, this page will show Apple’s official App Store download badge and direct product link.
