School’s out Friday, the outdoor pools open Saturday, and Sunday belongs to the largest Pride march in the country. Add free World Cup watch parties in all five boroughs and a packed run of street fairs, and this is the first full-tilt summer weekend of the year. Here’s where to be — and what to know before you head out.
Three stories shaping the weekend
Pride owns Sunday. The 2026 NYC Pride March runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, heading down Fifth Avenue from 26th Street to Eighth Street, west to Christopher Street, and back up Seventh Avenue. Streets along the route close from late morning into the evening. PrideFest, the festival on Fourth Avenue at Astor Place, runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the same day. The week’s unofficial opener is Friday night, when the Drag March gathers at Tompkins Square Park at 8 p.m. and moves through the East Village.
The World Cup is reshaping Midtown. A 42-day event embargo runs through July 20 across much of Manhattan’s event spine, with game-day restrictions and fan-zone footprints extending into Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island. For Midtown, the advisory reviewed by NYC In Focus lists major corridors around Central Park South, 34th Street, 42nd Street, 57th Street, 59th Street, Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue, Seventh Avenue, Eighth Avenue, Broadway, Madison Avenue, Park Avenue, the West Side highway corridor and the FDR Drive / Harlem River Drive corridor. The upside for fans: free watch parties are landing in parks, plazas, and public markets across the city.
Summer infrastructure switches on. The city’s outdoor pools open for the season Saturday, June 27, free at sites in every borough, and the public beaches are already running daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday is also the last day of school for NYC public-school students.

Know before you go
Getting around will take patience this weekend. A city traffic advisory reviewed by NYC In Focus shows a much wider street-management footprint than the marquee events alone suggest.
- World Cup traffic is bigger than one fan zone. A 42-day special-event construction embargo runs from June 8 through July 20 across major Manhattan corridors tied to the tournament. The footprint includes portions of Midtown, the Central Park perimeter, Fifth Avenue, Madison Avenue, Park Avenue, Sixth Avenue, Seventh Avenue, Eighth Avenue, Broadway, 34th Street, 42nd Street, 57th Street, 59th Street and the FDR Drive / Harlem River Drive corridor between 23rd Street and the Third Avenue Bridge.
- Game-day restrictions apply this weekend. The advisory lists game-day embargo windows from June 24 through June 27 and June 27 through June 30, with added attention around Lexington Avenue, Madison Avenue, East 49th Street, Battery Park City streets, and the 10th, 11th and 12th Avenue corridors between West 23rd and West 59th streets.
- Fan-zone activity reaches all five boroughs. The advisory lists Brooklyn fan-zone streets in DUMBO and around Brooklyn Bridge approaches from June 13 through July 19; Queens fan-zone streets near Flushing Meadows from June 11 through June 27; Bronx fan-zone streets near Yankee Stadium / Bronx Terminal Market on June 13 and 14; Staten Island fan-zone streets along Richmond Terrace from June 29 through July 2; and Manhattan fan-zone blocks around Rockefeller Center in July.
- Sunday’s Pride footprint is extensive. The Pride March forms around Fifth Avenue and the West/East 20s and 30s, moves down Fifth Avenue from 25th Street to Eighth Street, turns west through Greenwich Village, continues along Christopher Street, then moves north on Seventh Avenue. Dispersal streets extend into the West 15th to West 19th Street area. PrideFest adds closures around Fourth Avenue, Astor Place, Cooper Square, Lafayette Street and nearby East Village blocks.
- Saturday has its own closure stack. The 3rd Avenue Cooper Square Fair affects Third Avenue between 14th and Sixth streets. The Lower Sixth Avenue Merchandise Fair affects Sixth Avenue between West 23rd and West 34th streets. The CRCA Grant’s Tomb Criterium affects the Riverside Drive loop around Grant’s Tomb, plus nearby sections of Riverside Drive, Claremont Avenue and West 120th / West 122nd streets.
- The practical takeaway: avoid driving into Midtown, the Village, Astor Place, DUMBO, Flushing Meadows and major fan-zone corridors unless you have to. Closures remain at the discretion of NYPD, so exact blocks and timing can shift during the day.
