Five city contracts worth a combined $18.3 million cleared this week, led by $11.7 million to BronxWorks to keep NYCHA community centers running. Three of the five skipped open competition.

Here’s where the money goes, biggest first.

$11.7M: Cornerstone community centers

The Department of Youth and Community Development is extending its Cornerstone contract with BronxWorks Inc. for $11,706,764.

Cornerstone runs year-round activities for young people and adults at 99 NYCHA community centers across the five boroughs. The notice doesn’t say which centers BronxWorks operates.

How it was picked: negotiated acquisition, meaning no open bidding. The agency says an extension keeps services going on the same terms, and that current providers have performed “satisfactory and above.”

$3.5M: COMPASS afterschool

DYCD awarded $3,488,400 to Inner Force Economic Development Corp to run COMPASS programs — free afterschool and summer care for kindergarten through eighth grade, housed in public school buildings.

How it was picked: competitive sealed proposals from a pre-qualified list, judged on price, quality and program design. This one did compete.

$2.2M: Health care at a Brooklyn men’s shelter

The Department of Homeless Services is extending on-site medical and behavioral health services at the Atlantic Assessment Men’s Shelter, 1322 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, with Sunset Park Health Council Inc., doing business as Family Health Centers at NYU Langone.

The listed contract amount is $2,247,598. But the notice’s own text puts the extension’s proposed budget at $1,670,545 for Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027. It doesn’t explain the gap.

How it was picked: negotiated acquisition extension with the current provider, as a bridge while DHS drafts a new RFP. Note the start date: the extension began more than a month before this notice.

The smaller checks

$632,000, HRA: The Department of Social Services is using a two-year renewal option with Prutech Solutions, Inc. for IT consulting on maintenance and operations, running Jan. 1, 2027, to Dec. 31, 2028. Selection method: renewal.

$265,000, Parks: NYC Parks hired Svam International Inc. for a cybersecurity assessment to find weaknesses in its systems and map out fixes, aligned with the city’s Cyber Command. Selection method: M/WBE noncompetitive small purchase — no bidding.

What the notices do not say

None of the human services awards lists how many people will be served or the term of the Cornerstone and COMPASS deals.
