The city wants to put a roughly 676-seat high school on Astoria Boulevard in East Elmhurst, Queens. The School Construction Authority has filed notice of a proposed site at 108-14 Astoria Boulevard, and public comments are due by Dec. 23, 2026.
The SCA would acquire the land on behalf of the Department of Education, which is proposing the school.
The site
The lot sits on the south side of Astoria Boulevard between 108th and 110th streets. It covers about 35,601 square feet, or 0.817 acre.
Today it holds a one-story commercial building and a paved parking lot. Tax records: Block 1703, Lots 86, 87, 93, 94 and 97-99, “and any other nearby sites,” per the notice.
That last phrase means the final footprint isn’t locked to the listed lots.
How this works
The filing is made under Section 1731 of the state Public Authorities Law, the SCA’s site-selection process. This is the public’s window to comment before the site moves ahead.
The site plan and supporting materials are posted on the SCA’s New School Sites page and available at its Long Island City office.
What the notice does not say
No opening date, construction budget or building height. It also doesn’t say what happens to the existing business on the lot, or whether the land would be bought or taken.
And it doesn’t say which students the school would serve beyond “high school in Queens.”
